When we talk about best time to visit a certain place some general aspects are considered, like temperature, rain, distance and so days to require, apart from local obligations and attractions (contextual events, festivals, restrictions etc.). However, the last but not the least, and the most important factor is personal obligations of the person concerned. Because many a time parents end up planning their holidays according to the vacations of their children.
Ujjayanta Palace, Agartala
Taking the general factors in view here I would talk about Agartala, the capital city of Tripura and the state in general.
Tripura is bounded by Bangladesh on three sides leaving only a chicken's neck to connect with the rest of the country. It's mostly a hilly state, the anode of 19 tribes and some non-tribes. Normally it gets rain during July-August continuing upto September. However depending on the yearly variation rain fall begins in mid April also. So if anybody wants to avoid rain it's better to plan for the period from October to March-April. Winter is not experienced in the extreme from in Tripura. The lowest temperature basically hovers around 7-8 degree Celsius, with some exceptions in few years going below that. Similarly in summer one can expect highest temperature soaring upto 38-39 degree Celsius.
Kharchi procession
Coming onto other factors the lovers of festivity may consider visiting this state in October for Durga Puja, the grand festival of the Hindus. One needs to see it personally to believe. It's not lesser pompous than those in Kolkata. Then there's Kharchi Festival falling in the first week of July. Having root in the royal time this draws visitors and pilgrims from different parts of the country. It would offer you a Hindu culture with indigenous flavour. Other festival times to consider are Bijhu, the biggest festival of the Chakma tribe falling in mid-April every year. Do land up during this time and let loose your young spirit in the rhythm of Bijhu.
Neermahal-the water palace
Diwali is a huge festival in pan India, specially in the Hindu belt. It is also a grand occasion in Udaipur that houses the Tripura Sundari Temple, which is considered one of the Shakti Pithas of Hindu pantheon, so a very sacred site for the Hindus. The grandeur and ecstasy of people cannot be imagined, but can be experienced only.
With the state having a more or less peaceful situation now there are no such restrictions now, except border areas. So, Tripura beckons in the days to come.
